Comfortably ensconced in the Toronto dining scene, chefs Rebecca Ross and Alex Bruveris’s culinary journey began back in the spring of 2014 cooking at Enoteca Sociale with a dream of opening their restaurant one day. Two months after being evicted from the house they were living in, they found themselves in Elkwater, AB which presented them with a business opportunity to start their restaurant. At first, it was a rough sledding slope for the young yet hopeful chefs. They tirelessly searched for a niche and food style that would encourage foot traffic to their restaurant. It took a lot of creativity, dedication, and patience till they found followers which subsequently grew in numbers.

Camp Cookhouse has something to offer to every palate with its skillful yet very basic menu at reasonable prices. For only 5 dollars, you can get a small lunch of house baked beans served with fresh cornbread. Their popular huge BLT salad of romaine, cherry tomatoes, grilled house-baked bread and smoked bacon sells for 12 dollars. Their crispy confit chicken leg is 7 dollars and for an additional 4 dollars, you can order some ratatouille and cheesy grits for a full meal. All the items listed on the menu is made in-house with fresh local ingredients. Service doesn’t stop at their cozy 95 seat (including 40 on the patio) restaurant. They also have an attached general store that serves as a liquor outlet and carries a wide range of campfire food and other equipment.

Ross and Bruveris want to provide a dining experience that is fun and warm and felt an industrial design for their restaurant layout would give their ambiance a rustic and calm appeal.
